For students who are looking to complete their bachelors degree, but who are interested in a more interdisiplinary degree or who may not want or need to specialize in one program, the Social Students, Psychology Emphasis can be a great fit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This program combines Political Science, History, Social Studies and Geography to tell the story of humanity. Depending on the courses selected in the program, students may fulfill many of the Core Curriculum Goal Areas as well.While students may select any psychology classes for their program electives, the following themes are examples that students could focus on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Multicultural Focus<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Completing 14 credits from the following electives will provide students with a strong foundation to support and serve clients, patients and students who belong to a variety of cultural groups and backgrounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>PSY 2200 Human Sexuality<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>PSY 2490 Disability and Ableism<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>PSY 3500 Psychology of Aging<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>PSY 4242 Psychology of Women and Gender<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>PSY 4243 Queer Psychology<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>PSY 4490 Stereotyping, Prejudice and Discrimination<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>PSY 4588 Multicultural Psychology<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Human Service Focus<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Completing 14 credits from the following electives will provide students with a foundation of practice-based skills for use in human service work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>PSY 2217 Abnormal Psychology<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>PSY 2227 Learning and Cognition<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>PSY 3332 Counseling and Crisis Interventions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>PSY 3337 Group Processes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>PSY 4328 Behavioral and Cognitive Intervention<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>PSY 4467 Personality Theories<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Applied\/Industry Focus<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Completing 14 credits from the following electives will provide students with a foundation of knowledge and skills to succeed in an applied field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>PSY 2935 People of the Environment: Psychological Perspective<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>PSY 3367 Social Psychology<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>PSY 3388 Health Psychology<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>PSY 3636 Positive Psychology<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>PSY 4357 Industrial\/Organizational Psychology<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>PSY 4587 Forensic Psychology<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>For more information on the courses in this program, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bemidjistate.edu\/academics\/catalog\/current\/programs\/ba__soctpsya\">visit the course catalog.<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Social Studies B.A. allows students to explore the human and social aspects of psychology and how it affects the world today.
