LSW<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>If you wish to attain the title Licensed Social Worker (LSW) in Minnesota, you must first get a Bachelor of Social Work degree from a Council on Social Work Education accredited university or college, such as 91̽»¨<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Next, you must pass the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aswb.org\/exam-candidates\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Association of Social Work Boards<i title=\"External link\" class=\"bsu-icon bsu-icon-external-link small ms-1\"><\/i><\/a> (ASWB) Bachelor&rsquo;s Level Exam<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Upon successful completion of the ASWB exam you must apply to be a&nbsp;Licensed Social Worker (LSW) through the <a href=\"http:\/\/mn.gov\/health-licensing-boards\/social-work\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Minnesota Board of Social Work.<i title=\"External link\" class=\"bsu-icon bsu-icon-external-link small ms-1\"><\/i><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">State of MN Supervised Practice Requirements for Social Workers<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Supervision means a professional relationship between a licensing supervisor and a social worker in which the licensing supervisor provides evaluation and direction of the services provided by the social worker to promote competent and ethical services to clients through the continuing development of the social workers knowledge, skills and values.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A minimum of 4,000 hours of supervised practice is required for the LSW and LGSW after the license is issued, and for LISW and LICSW license eligibility.<br>The requirements are described in the following links:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>LSW<\/strong>:&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.revisor.mn.gov\/statutes\/?id=148E.100\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Minnesota Statutes, Section 148E.100<i title=\"External link\" class=\"bsu-icon bsu-icon-external-link small ms-1\"><\/i><\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>LGSW<\/strong>: (non-clinical practice):&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.revisor.mn.gov\/statutes\/?id=148E.105\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Minnesota Statutes, Section 148E.105<i title=\"External link\" class=\"bsu-icon bsu-icon-external-link small ms-1\"><\/i><\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>LGSW<\/strong>: (clinical practice):&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.revisor.mn.gov\/statutes\/?id=148E.106\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Minnesota Statutes, Section 148E.106<i title=\"External link\" class=\"bsu-icon bsu-icon-external-link small ms-1\"><\/i><\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>LISW<\/strong>:&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.revisor.mn.gov\/statutes\/?id=148E.110\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Minnesota Statutes, Section 148E.110<i title=\"External link\" class=\"bsu-icon bsu-icon-external-link small ms-1\"><\/i><\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>LICSW<\/strong>:&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.revisor.mn.gov\/statutes\/?id=148E.115\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Minnesota Statutes, Section 148E.115<i title=\"External link\" class=\"bsu-icon bsu-icon-external-link small ms-1\"><\/i><\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Requirements of Supervisors:&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.revisor.mn.gov\/statutes\/?id=148E.120\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Minnesota Statutes, Section 148E.120<i title=\"External link\" class=\"bsu-icon bsu-icon-external-link small ms-1\"><\/i><\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Documentation of Supervision:&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.revisor.mn.gov\/statutes\/?id=148E.125\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Minnesota Statutes, Section 148E.125<i title=\"External link\" class=\"bsu-icon bsu-icon-external-link small ms-1\"><\/i><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Non-Clinical Supervised Practice Requirements<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Social Worker Licensing Supervisor must be a LSW who has completed the supervised practice requirements; LGSW; LISW; or LICSW; and 30 hours of training in supervision.<br>Supervision is a one-time requirement for<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>LSW<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>LGSW engaged in non-clinical practice; or<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>eligibility for the LISW license<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>100 hours of supervision is required over 4,000 hours of practice at the rate of 4 hours of supervision for every 160 hours of practice\n<ul>\n<li>50 hours must be provided through one-on-one supervision, and<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>a minimum of 25 hours of in-person supervision, and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>no more than 25 hours of supervision via eye-to-eye electronic media while maintaining visual contact, excluding e-mail<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Remaining 50 hours must be provided through:<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>one-on-one supervision, or<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>group supervision (limited to 6 supervisees)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>supervision may be in-person, by telephone or via eye-to-eye electronic media while maintaining visual contact, excluding email<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Alternate Licensing Supervisor<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Up to 25% of the required supervision hours may be provided by a Mental Health Professional as defined in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.revisor.mn.gov\/statutes\/cite\/245.462\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Minnesota Statutes 245.462, Subdivision 18, clauses (1) to (6)<i title=\"External link\" class=\"bsu-icon bsu-icon-external-link small ms-1\"><\/i><\/a> and is a registered psychiatric nurse, licensed psychologist, psychiatrist, licensed marriage and family therapist or licensed professional clinical counselor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Up to 100% of the required supervision hours may be provided by an alternate supervisor if:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>there are 5 or fewer licensed social workers in the county where the supervisee practices;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the supervisor is an unlicensed social worker who is employed in, and provides supervision in, a setting exempt from licensure and has equivalent qualifications;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the supervisor is a social worker engaged in authorized social work practice in a state or province surrounding Minnesota; or<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the licensee is engaged in authorized social work practice outside of Minnesota and the supervisor meets equivalent qualifications<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Supervision Documentation<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Supervision Plan Form (Non-Clinical or Clinical)\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Based on their scope of practice, supervisees must submit a Non-Clinical or Clinical Supervision Plan form no more than 60 days after beginning a social work position and a revised form if there is a substantial change from the approved plan.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/mn.gov\/boards\/social-work\/licensees\/forms.jsp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Non-Clinical Supervision Plan<i title=\"External link\" class=\"bsu-icon bsu-icon-external-link small ms-1\"><\/i><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Supervision Verification Form (Non-Clinical or Clinical)\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Based on their scope of practice, supervisees must submit a Non-Clinical or Clinical Supervision Verification form\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>at the time of license renewal and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>when applying for an LISW or LICSW.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/mn.gov\/boards\/social-work\/licensees\/forms.jsp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Non-Clinical Supervision Verification<i title=\"External link\" class=\"bsu-icon bsu-icon-external-link small ms-1\"><\/i><\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mn.gov\/boards\/social-work\/licensees\/forms.jsp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Board of Social Work Forms<i title=\"External link\" class=\"bsu-icon bsu-icon-external-link small ms-1\"><\/i><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Minnesota recognizes the bachelor&rsquo;s degree in Social Work from a Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) accredited institution (the BSU Social Work Program is accredited by CSWE), as preparation for school social work licensure by the Minnesota Department of Education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">MN School Social Work Licensure Requirements<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A baccalaureate degree or a master&rsquo;s degree in social work from a Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) accredited program.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Licensure from the Minnesota Board on Social Work.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Licensure from the Minnesota Department of Education.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>The Social Work faculty encourages students to take additional courses in education along with SOWK 3790 Social Work in the School System to be well prepared for school social work practice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Contact<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Department of Education<br>1500 Highway 36 West<br>Roseville, Minnesota 55113-4266<br>Phone: 651-582-8691;
