Clark Library as a library technician.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Dr. Jesse Grant<\/strong> was named assistant vice president for student life &amp; success.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Ann Humphrey<\/strong> has joined the American Indian Resource Center as assistant director.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Kevin Jackson<\/strong> has joined the physical plant as a general maintenance worker.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Faculty &amp; Staff News<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Dr. Virgil Bakken<\/strong>, professor of integrated media, and <strong>Dr. Dennis Lunt<\/strong>, assistant professor of philosophy, have been appointed as co-directors of the Leadership Studies Program.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Dr. Jim Barta,&nbsp;<\/strong>dean of the College of Health Sciences and Human Ecology, delivered the first presentation in a new, locally organized Distinguished Scholar Lecture Series April 2 with a presentation on mathematics and indigenous culture. His lecture, &ldquo;Math and Culture: Indigenous Activities and Instruction for Our Students,&rdquo; started a five-lecture series that included faculty from the University of North Dakota, North Dakota State University and the University of Manitoba.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Dr. Stephen Carlson,<\/strong> professor of music, performed as a guest pianist with True Concord Voices &amp; Orchestra musicians at the final concert of the 2017-18 classical music concert series at the Dove of Peace Lutheran Church in Tucson, Ariz., on April 22. The concert series is part of a fundraiser which supports Tucson-area nonprofit organizations.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Dr. John Ellis<\/strong>, assistant professor of history, gave a presentation entitled &ldquo;Feminism and American Religion in the Revolution&rsquo;s Wake, 1780-1840s&rdquo; March 26 as part of a Bemidji Public Library lecture series celebrating Women&rsquo;s History Month. They are:\n<ul>\n<li>&ldquo;Interscholastic Athletics&rdquo; with two co-authors in the sixth edition &ldquo;Contemporary Sport Management,&rdquo; to be published in May 2018;<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: inherit; font-size: 1rem;\">&ldquo;<\/span>Mossy Oak&rdquo; and &ldquo;Bass Pro Shops&rdquo; in the second edition of&nbsp;<span style=\"font-family: inherit; font-size: 1rem;\">&ldquo;Branded: Branding in <\/span><span style=\"font-family: inherit; font-size: 1rem;\">Sport<\/span><span style=\"font-family: inherit; font-size: 1rem;\"> Business,&rdquo; published in April.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Dr. Angela Fournier<\/strong>, professor of psychology, and graduate student Emma Pasiuk published &ldquo;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.apa-hai.org\/human-animal-interaction\/human-animal-interaction-and-metaphor-in-equine-assisted-psychotherapy-empirical-support-for-the-eagala-model\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Human-Animal Interaction and Metaphor in Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy: Empirical Support for the EAGALA Model<i title=\"External link\" class=\"bsu-icon bsu-icon-external-link small ms-1\"><\/i><\/a>,&rdquo; which examined variables in&nbsp;equine-assisted psychotherapy and learning, in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.apa-hai.org\/human-animal-interaction\/haib\/2018\/volume-6-no-1\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Vol. 6, No. 1 of the Human-Animal Interaction Bulletin<i title=\"External link\" class=\"bsu-icon bsu-icon-external-link small ms-1\"><\/i><\/a> with co-authors&nbsp;Elizabeth A. Letson from Eagle Vista Ranch &amp; Wellness Center, Thomas D. Berry&nbsp;from&nbsp;Christopher Newport University.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Dr. Debbie Guelda<\/strong>, professor of biology, <strong>Dr. Donna Pawlowski<\/strong>, professor of English, and&nbsp;<strong>Dr. Colleen Greer<\/strong>, dean of the College of Arts &amp; Sciences, delivered two presentations at the Campus Compact annual conference, held March 25-28 in Indianapolis. They presented an oral presentation, &ldquo;<span style=\"font-family: inherit; font-size: 1rem;\">Creating Community and Civic Engagement Begins with Institutional Infrastructure: Working From the Inside Out,&rdquo; and a poster presentation, &ldquo;<\/span>Uncovering Salient Issues Through the Eyes of Campus and Community Members.&rdquo; The presentations were in support of initiatives set forth in the university&rsquo;s Civic Action Plan.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Dr. Kathryn Klement<\/strong>, assistant professor of psychology, presented three papers at the annual meeting of the Midwestern Psychological Association, April 12-14 in Chicago. She also was elected to the institute&rsquo;s Board of Directors as vice president for membership.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Ryan Webber<\/strong>, adjunct instructor of music, and <strong>Dr. Miriam Webber<\/strong>, assistant professor of music, along with BSU student Noah Harstad, performed with the Brainerd-based Heartland Symphony, April 6-8. The ensemble performed<span style=\"font-family: inherit; font-size: 1rem;\">&nbsp;music by Nikolai&nbsp;Rimsky-Korsakov and Gabriel&nbsp;Faur&eacute; along with a new piece by Minnesota composer Flannery Cunningham.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong>Ryan Webber<\/strong>&nbsp;also delivered pre-concert lectures prior to the Minnesota Orchestra&rsquo;s March 15-16-17 performances of Gustav Mahler&rsquo;s Titan Symphony.
