Individual generators are responsible for proper collection, identification, labeling and storage of hazardous wastes in their respective areas before EHS removes them.<\/p>\n<p>EHS also provides waste management information, advice and assistance to campus generators. Resources, such as the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bemidjistate.edu\/offices\/environmental-health-safety\/environment\/hazardous-waste-management\/chemical-hazardous-waste\/\">Chemical Hazardous Waste Management Guide<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bemidjistate.edu\/offices\/environmental-health-safety\/environment\/hazardous-waste-management\/biohazardous-waste\/\">Biohazardous Waste Management Guide<\/a>, are available here or by contacting EHS.<\/p>\n<h2>Reduce, Reuse, Recycle<\/h2>\n<p>BSU encourages all employees to consider ways to reduce or eliminate waste in their work activities, such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>substituting non-hazardous or less hazardous products<\/li>\n<li>using water-based paints and soy-based inks<\/li>\n<li>purchasing and preparing products in quantities that will be completely used<\/li>\n<li>reducing the size and frequency of waste-generating projects and activities<\/li>\n<li>accurately labeling product containers and preventing product contamination<\/li>\n<li>designing projects that will use wastes generated by other projects<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Additional sources of information on waste reduction include professional publications, product vendors and manufacturers, environmental websites at various universities and government agencies such as the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pca.state.mn.us\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA)<i title=\"External link\" class=\"bsu-icon bsu-icon-external-link small ms-1\"><\/i><\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www3.epa.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)<i title=\"External link\" class=\"bsu-icon bsu-icon-external-link small ms-1\"><\/i><\/a>.
