\"28\"<\/a>Environmental stewardship is an important part of 91̽»¨\u2019s history, identity, and core mission for over five decades.<\/p>\n

What began in the late 60\u2019s as a research endeavor to address local environmental issues has\u00a0blossomed over many years into a robust academic, institutional and societal commitment to\u00a0sustainability. Here are some of the highlights of 91̽»¨\u2019s environmental\u00a0actions:<\/p>\n

1969<\/strong> \u2013 Center for Environmental Studies Established to perform research<\/p>\n

1972<\/strong> \u2013 Environmental Studies Bachelors of Science and Graduate Program created<\/p>\n

1992<\/strong> \u2013 Environmental Task Force Created<\/p>\n

1996<\/strong> \u2013 Environmental Advisory Committee<\/a><\/p>\n

1998<\/strong> \u2013 Environmental Policy Statement<\/a> Established<\/p>\n

2004<\/strong> \u2013 Environmental Stewardship Signature Theme Created<\/p>\n

2005<\/strong> \u2013 Sustainable Campus Endowment Fund Created<\/p>\n

2006<\/strong> \u2013 Talloires Declaration<\/a> Signed & Wind Energy Purchased to power the Student Union<\/p>\n

2008<\/strong> \u2013 $5\/Semester Green Fee Established & Sustainability Office Instated, ACUPCC signed<\/a><\/p>\n

2009<\/strong> \u2013 Strategic Plan for Sustainability<\/a>\u00a0(2008 – 2013)<\/p>\n

2010<\/strong> \u2013 Consultants engaged with to conduct GHG Inventory & Climate Action Plan (CAP)<\/a><\/p>\n

2011<\/strong> \u2013 Inventory and CAP Completed & Accepted<\/p>\n

2012<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Sustainable Landscape Plan Created<\/a><\/p>\n

2013<\/strong> \u2013\u00a0Solar Transpired Air Collector<\/a> installed; Biomass Feasibility Study<\/a> Completed<\/p>\n

2014<\/strong> \u2013 Sustainable Campus Research & Community Engagement Award Created<\/p>\n

2015<\/strong> \u2013 Climate Action Progress Report Completed, Sustainability Endowment 1st Award Given, Green Fee<\/a> increased to $7.50\/semester<\/p>\n

2016<\/strong> –\u00a0Sustainability Office Progress Report Completed<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

2017<\/strong> – Carbon Commitment Reaffirmed, BSU Recognized as a Green Ribbon School,\u200b Gwayakochigewin Collaborative started<\/p>\n

2018<\/strong> – Climate Commitment Signed<\/p>\n

2019 <\/strong>– BSU Recognized as a Bicycle Friendly University; Indigenous Sustainability Studies program created<\/p>\n

2023 – Green Fee shifted to discretionary ($9.25 per semester), Outdoor Classroom & Migrating Butterfly Rest-stop installed<\/p>\n

2024 – Tactical Green Infrastructure demonstration rain garden installed near Hwy 197, 40 kW solar photo-voltaic array installed<\/p>\n
