{"id":5,"date":"2022-07-14T13:35:23","date_gmt":"2022-07-14T18:35:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.bemidjistate.edu\/offices\/teacher-education\/?page_id=5"},"modified":"2026-01-29T15:08:49","modified_gmt":"2026-01-29T21:08:49","slug":"admission","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.bemidjistate.edu\/offices\/teacher-education\/admission\/","title":{"rendered":"Admission"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"intro\">Students applying to On-Campus Teacher Education programs must meet the following admission criteria:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Applications will be reviewed and evaluated using the <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bemidjistate.edu\/offices\/teacher-education\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/148\/2023\/04\/Admission-Rubric-Dept-Approved-01-22-2024.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Teacher Education Admission Rubric (Campus Version)<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Students must be accepted to BSU before applying for admission to the Teacher Education program<\/strong>: <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bemidjistate.edu\/admissions\/undergraduate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Apply to BSU here<\/a><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Cumulative GPA 2.50<\/strong><br>\nStudents must earn a C- or above in all major coursework. Additionally, students must maintain a 2.50 cumulative GPA to remain in the program.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Complete 30 Semester Credits<\/strong><br>\nThe Office of Teacher Education recommends completion of all\/most Core Curriculum requirements prior to starting Education (ED) coursework.<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bemidjistate.edu\/offices\/teacher-education\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/148\/2023\/04\/Recommendation-for-Admission-Fillable-02-04-2025.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Recommendation Form for Teacher Education (Campus Version)<\/a> &ndash; OR &ndash; Letter of Recommendation<br>\n<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>The completed recommendation may be uploaded with your application packet <strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">or<\/span><\/strong> the recommender may send it directly to the Advising Coordinator: <strong><a href=\"mailto:Teacher.Education@bemidjistate.edu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Teacher.Education@bemidjistate.edu<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Completion of a college-level composition course with a grade of B- or higher &ndash; OR &ndash; Address the following four writing prompts<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>All responses should: be organized and clearly respond to the provided prompt.<\/li>\n<li>Candidates are encouraged to write approximately <strong>one page, double-spaced, per prompt<\/strong>. Candidates are also encouraged to meet with <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bemidjistate.edu\/services\/wrc\/\">BSU&rsquo;s Writing Resource Center<\/a><\/strong> for writing assistance.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Responses will be reviewed and evaluated using the <\/strong><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bemidjistate.edu\/offices\/teacher-education\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/148\/2023\/04\/Admission-Rubric-Dept-Approved-01-22-2024.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Teacher Education Admission Rubric (Campus Version)<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Writing Prompts<\/strong>:\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Teamwork<\/strong> &ndash; Describe a time when you needed to work as part of a team. What was your role on the team and what actions did you take to contribute to the team&rsquo;s goals? How did this experience influence your desire to be a teacher?<\/li>\n<li><strong>Time Management<\/strong> &ndash; Describe a time when you had to work on multiple projects at once. How did you manage your time? How do you feel this experience will influence your teaching?<\/li>\n<li><strong>Leadership<\/strong> &ndash; Describe a leadership opportunity you had. What did you learn about yourself from that experience? How do you see this relating to being a teacher?<\/li>\n<li><strong>Conflict Resolution<\/strong> &ndash; Describe a time when you were faced with a difficult interpersonal situation. How did you resolve the conflict? How did this experience influence your desire to be a teacher?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Complete the ONLINE<\/strong> <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bemidjistate.edu\/offices\/teacher-education\/admission\/apply-now\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Application for Admission to Teacher Education<\/a>.<\/strong> <strong>Applications may be submitted at any time. However, priority will be given to students who submit applications by the following dates:<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li>Fall Admission &ndash; February 15th<\/li>\n<li>Spring Admission &ndash; October 1st<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Applications are reviewed <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">after<\/span> the &ldquo;Priority Deadlines&rdquo; listed above and then approximately every 2 weeks after. Students will be notified by email of their acceptance status.<\/p>\n<h2>Important Program Information<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Students will not be allowed to register for Education (ED) or Special Education (SPED) courses until they have been formally admitted to the Teacher Education program.<\/li>\n<li>Field experiences and student teaching require school district criminal background checks. If you think you may have an issue, you may want to initiate a background check yourself before you seek admission. Applicants with any prior conviction(s) may be unable to complete a program of study in Education.<\/li>\n<li>Your disposition for the role of professional educator will be assessed throughout the program. This includes attributes such as attendance, reliability, and communication skills.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>Transfer Student Information<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>BSU may consider a transfer of courses from other institutions if a syllabus is provided and the course is found to meet 100% of the required state standards assigned to the BSU course being substituted. If field experience is a requirement of the BSU course, the external course must contain an equivalent field experience and documentation must be provided for review.<\/li>\n<li>Please Note: All coursework required for licensure must be completed for credit (no auditing).
