International students on an F-1 or J-1 visa are eligible to be employed in regular on-campus student payroll positions.<\/p>\n

Work study positions (campus employment that is funded by the state or federal government) are restricted to U.S. citizens and permanent residents. Most positions on campus are not<\/em> work study, and many international students are able to successfully find a regular student payroll position.<\/p>\n

Full Time Enrollment Status<\/h3>\n

All international students on an F-1 or J-1 visa who are interested in working on campus must maintain their immigration status and<\/strong><\/em> full-time enrollment during the fall and spring terms (summer session enrollment is not required):<\/p>\n

For graduate students:
\n<\/strong>Full-time enrollment is 9 semester hours, or 6 semester hours plus a graduate assistantship.<\/p>\n

For undergraduates students:<\/strong>
\nFull-time enrollment is 12 semester hours.<\/p>\n

Finding a Job<\/h3>\n

Q. How do I find a job?<\/strong><\/p>\n

A. This is information about working on-campus. Handshake<\/a> is the primary source for finding an on-campus job. You may also inquire directly with an office or a department and ask if they are hiring. In addition, the food service for BSU (Aramark) and the 91̽»¨ bookstore are other on-campus areas where you can work. To work for Aramark, go to the Aramark website<\/a> and look for “Student Worker” positions.<\/p>\n

Q. What do I do after I find a job?<\/strong><\/p>\n

BSU campus student workers (any place on campus that\u2019s not Aramark food service or the BSU bookstore):<\/strong><\/h5>\n

Congratulations on your new job at BSU! Please carefully read the following instructions; all steps must be completed before you can begin working.<\/p>\n

If your new job is with *Aramark<\/strong>* or the *BSU Bookstore<\/strong>* you will be working with their own employment office\u2014not the BSU Student Payroll office. See the different steps for those, further down on this page:<\/strong><\/p>\n

  1. Please email your complete current local address to international@bemidjistate.edu<\/a>.<\/li>\n
  2. You will need a U.S. social security card in order to begin work.<\/li>\n
  3. The first step is to ensure you have all documents necessary to bring to the local Social Security office interview when you apply for your SS card.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
