The actions listed in the guide should be considered guidelines that are intended to help you prepare for reasonable responses to the types of incidents that may occur on campus. Your actions may vary depending on the specific circumstances of an incident.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bemidjistate.edu\/services\/public-safety\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/92\/2022\/02\/BSU-NTC_EPG_2020.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">BSU\/NTC Emergency Procedures Guide<\/a> can be viewed by clicking the link, and it can also be found in various locations in all buildings across campus. The guide is printable, and the Department of Public Safety has physical copies available on request. If you notice one missing in a classroom, meeting room, etc. or would like a hard copy, please email <a href=\"mailto:publicsafety@bemidjistate.edu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">publicsafety@bemidjistate.edu<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>We encourage your to review and be familiar with this guide before an incident on campus happens.<\/p>\n<h2>General Emergency Procedures<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Always protect yourself first.<\/li>\n<li>Protect and warn others to the best of your ability.<\/li>\n<li>Proceed to the internal relocation site or external assembly point designated for the building.<\/li>\n<li>Call 911.<\/li>\n<li>State the emergency.<\/li>\n<li>Give building&rsquo;s E911 address.<\/li>\n<li>Give the exact location of the emergency in the building (floor, room number, etc.).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>For All Medical Emergencies<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Immediately call or have someone call 911.\n<ul>\n<li>State the emergency.<\/li>\n<li>Give the exact location of the emergency.<\/li>\n<li>Describe the victims symptoms.<\/li>\n<li>Give your name and call back number.<\/li>\n<li>Stay on the line until you are told to hang up.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Render first aid according to the best of your ability and training.<\/li>\n<li>Stay with the victim until emergency responders arrive, if it is safe to do so.<\/li>\n<li>If possible, have someone meet emergency responders and direct them to the victim.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Guidelines for Supporting the Victim&rsquo;s Medical Needs<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Do not move injured people unless the area they are in is unsafe.<\/li>\n<li>Control severe bleeding with direct pressure to the wound and, if possible, elevate the affected body part.<\/li>\n<li>For chest pain, get victim off their feet and be reassuring and supportive.<\/li>\n<li>For poisoning and overdoses provide first aid and try to identify the product involved and how much was taken.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Updates to the Emergency Procedures Guide<\/h2>\n<p>The BSU\/NTC Emergency Procedures Guide is on a 4-year update cycle, with the most recent update happening in 2020. The next update will occur in 2024, with feedback and update requests communicated out to campus in 2023.
