Credits earned in TRIO-SSS courses may be used as electives toward graduation.<\/p>\n<h2>TRIO-SSS College Orientation<\/h2>\n<p>UNIV 1180&nbsp; (1 Credit)<\/p>\n<p>This course provides a complete orientation to the university to assist participants with the transition to college. Through departmental tours, guest lectures and various other activities, students gain a sense of community and knowledge that can enhance their college experience and help them become successful college students. This course addresses<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Academic, personal and social issues<\/li>\n<li>Economic and financial aid topics<\/li>\n<li>How to calculate and monitor academic progress<\/li>\n<li>Academic and other support services at BSU<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Critical Reading and Analysis<\/h2>\n<p>(UNIV 1199 &ndash; 2 Credits)<\/p>\n<p>This course addresses skill areas critical for academic success to help SSS participants become better students. Course topics include hands-on activities using a variety of materials, including the students&rsquo; own textbooks, that help students improve:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Critical thinking skills<\/li>\n<li>Textbook reading ability<\/li>\n<li>Note taking skills<\/li>\n<li>Test preparation and test taking skills<\/li>\n<li>Memory techniques and study strategies<\/li>\n<li>Time management and organizational skills<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Life Career Planning<\/h2>\n<p>(UNIV 1200 &ndash; 2 Credits)<\/p>\n<p>This course helps students decide on a major or confirm an already chosen major and then tie career planning to that major. Students learn to focus their academic endeavors toward post-graduation goals through the following activities:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Values clarification exercises, interest and personality inventories and career assessment analysis<\/li>\n<li>Research of national and regional employment trends, salaries and employment outlooks<\/li>\n<li>Specific career research<\/li>\n<li>Resume creation and discussions about job search etiquette and interviewing skills<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Personal &amp; Financial Wellness<\/h2>\n<p>(UNIV 1930 &ndash; 1 credit)<\/p>\n<p>Personal &amp; Financial Wellness will address personal and financial wellness topics for students; examine the importance of regular physical activity, identify &amp; implement time management and academic wellness opportunities, learn about financial topics including saving money, budgeting, loan information and developing job seeking skills.&nbsp; Learning about, and implementing these topics can help avoid, or decrease stress and in turn, increase personal wellness.<\/p>\n<h2>Capstone TRIO Student<\/h2>\n<p>(UNIV 3200 &ndash; 3 Credits)<\/p>\n<p>This course assists junior and senior students with job search strategies, networking, interviewing, becoming career ready and obtaining positions consistent with their career goals.
